Valentino is one of the unfortunate cats that nobody would ever want to touch. His skin and fur was hardened due to grime and poor hygiene. He couldn’t even open his eyes completely because of being swollen and caked, thereby effecting his eyesight. Adding to that, the little kitty suffered from a condition called sarcoptic mange, which is infectious and transmittable to both cats as well as humans. But one fortunate day, Elaine Seamans happened to pass by Valentino’s enclosure while she was visiting the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter. Elaine heard his call for help and Elaine decided what she would do to make this poor thing’s life a little better.
“He reached out with his little paw and made the tiniest meow,” Elaine told The Dodo. “It was like he was screaming without verbalizing it: ‘Please help me’… There are times when it’s not an option to keep walking,” she added. “You just have to stop. This was one of those times.”
This kind lady, despite knowing the medical condition of the cat, hugged him tightly. She didn’t even wear gloves before touching him.
“When I picked him up, he put his little head on my shoulder,” Elaine explained. “That was it. I had to get him out.” She called Toby Wisneski, from Leave No Paws Behind, instantly and asked him to take Valentino to the Vets. Now, he’s getting a proper medical care and his hygiene is also taken care of. The vets believe that Valentino will survive this and hopefully, soon he would be perfect and ready to get adopted!
